We’re travelling a lot this month, and that means I try to get my lotions, sunscreens, and face washes at our final destination. Why? Because airplane travel always leads to fun surprises, like face wash leaking or sunscreens that burst because of pressure changes in the airplane! Even if I take extra precaution, like ziploc bagging my beauty products, it always leads to some sort of mess. If anyone can please tell me the secret to a no-mess flight, please, do tell! Because I view it as losing dollars whenever this happens – and that’s no fun!
Upon arrival, I always head to the nearest drugstore to find some sort of substitute for my daily regimen. Luckily, this time, I was able to get to a Navy Exchange AND CVS drugstore within the first couple of days. There are a lot more options for us travelers out there nowadays. They usually have a section in the beauty aisle that has mroe natural products. I even found my favorite facial sunscreen for $5 less than what I pay for it in Maryland! WHAT?!
Here are my three immediate finds:
–Kiss My Face, Face Factor Sunscreen (SPF 30)– I use this on my face every day and I don’t break out; my skin also doesn’t get oily (which it tends to do with lotions on my face). Label reads: No parabens, no oxybenzone, fragrance-free, no animal products or animal testing.
–Burt’s Bees, Sensitive Daily Moisturizing Cream– This is great underneath my facial sunscreen (with item above) and at night after I cleanse my face (with item below) before bed. It’s more lightweight than a cream, which I like. Label reads: No parabens, phthlalates, or petrochemicals, no animal testing, fragrance free, allergy tested, hypoallergenic, dermatologist-tested, 99% natural.
–Alba Botanicals Acne-dote daily cleansing towelettes– I usually like to wash my face with a cleansing soap, but I’d have extra face wash to bring my from my trip, and I don’t want to bring stuff back on the plane. So this will do for now. It does a good job cleaning my face, and I like how my face feels slightly tingly after (not a chemical burn, but just a very clean feeling with essential oils as the fragrance). Label reads: No parabens, phthalates, or synthetic fragrances, 100% vegetarian ingredients, no animal testing, no synthetic fragrances.
What I look for:
Truth be told, I don’t have the time to spend half a day in the drugstore reading labels. I want to play with my kid on the beach and enjoy this humidity-free weather! And as I said before, I’m not perfect, but I do try my best to do good for the earth, animals, and my health. I look for no animal testing and cruelty-free products, and this is easy to spot with the bunny logo on the back of the beauty product labels. I look for no paraben or phthalate usage, because these chemicals may be endocrine disruptors or affect fertility. I look for things that are as natural as can be, with no synthetic fragrances (more unnecessary chemicals) and instead use essential oils (which smell oh so wonderful!). These items may or may not be completely vegan, but at least they’re super plant-based, in my opinion. I also like how they’re small enough to just use during my trip, so I won’t have to lug everything back to Maryland when our trip is over.
So for the traveler in you, there are options! Now get out there and play!
